皆さん、こんばんは。

I am delighted to warmly welcome you all to the 2024 staging of our annual Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee Day Event.

本日「ジャマイカブルーマウンテンコーヒーの日」記念イベントにお越しくださいました全ての皆様に、心より歓迎のご挨拶を申し上げます。

At the outset, let me extend profound condolences on behalf of the Government and people of Jamaica, to the Government and people of Japan—following the devastating Noto Peninsula earthquakes on 1st January. We are also saddened by reports of the tragic accident involving a passenger plane and a coast guard aircraft at Tokyo Haneda Airport on 2nd　January.

1月１日に発生した能登半島地震に関して、ジャマイカ政府及び国民を代表し、日本政府及び国民の皆様に心よりお悔み申し上げます。また、１月２日、羽田空港で起きました旅客機と海上保安庁航空機との衝突事故についても、私達は心を痛めております。

We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life, extensive injuries and displacement caused by these two episodes.The people of Jamaica stand in solidarity with the people of Japan during this difficult time. And we are encouraged　that　your unwavering strength and　resilience in the face of　challenging　times.

この二つの災害や事故でお亡くなりになった方々、怪我や避難を余儀なくされている方々に関して、私達は深い悲しみを覚えます。この大変な時期に、ジャマイカ国民は日本国民の皆様に心を寄せ共にあります。この困難な時、日本の方々の揺るぎない強さと復興の力に、私達も勇気づけられております。

This year, we proudly celebrate Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee (JBMC) Day in Japan and Jamaica under the theme "Brewed Perfection". The theme recognizes the consistently high standard of the J-B-M-C brand which is known globally for its golden balance: rich, sweet and aromatic.

本年、日本とジャマイカでのジャマイカブルーマウンテンコーヒーの日を「Brewed Perfection」をテーマに記念することを誇りに思います。このテーマは、芳醇、甘味、香りの黄金バランスで世界に知られるジャマイカブルーマウンテンコーヒーブランドの揺るがぬ高い基準を讃えるものです。

Our theme also serves as a fitting description of the vibrant Jamaica-Japan coffee trade and the spirit of collaboration which went into organizing today's coffee experience.

このテーマはまた、ジャマイカと日本の活発な貿易及びコラボレーションの精神を的確に表現しており、本日のコーヒー体験の開催にも投入されています。

I pause to thank the Association of Japanese Importers of Jamaican Coffee (A-J-I-J-C) and Connect Worldwide Japan for joining with the Embassy to stage our two-part showcase of Jamaica's beloved brew.

ジャマイカコーヒー輸入協議会（AJIJC）とコネクトワールドワイドジャパンにおかれましては、大使館と共に、本日ジャマイカの愛されるコーヒーの２部構成でのご紹介に参加していただき、有難うございます。

We have found a winning combination of bringing both Brand Jamaica (our renowned coffee) and DestinationJamaica (our premiere tourism product) to you through this coffee day event. And we are glad that you could all join us for this immersive experience.

私達は、このコーヒーイベントを通じて、ブランドジャマイカ (ジャマイカの名高いコーヒー) とデスティネーションジャマイカ (ジャマイカのプレミアツーリズムプロダクト) を皆様にご提供するという、ウイニングコンビネーションを見出しました。そして皆様にその体験にご参加いただき、体感していただきますことを嬉しく思います。

I am particularly delighted that this year's 6th celebration of JBMC Day is taking place during this 60th anniversary year of Jamaica-Japan diplomatic relations and the 2nd Japan-Caribbean Friendship Year. It also comes on the heels of the 70th anniversary of the first direct shipment of JBMC to Japan, which we celebrated in 2023.

この第6回ジャマイカ ブルーマウンテンコーヒーの日記念が、本年ジャマイカと日本の外交関係樹立60周年の年、同時に第2回日・カリブ交流年に行われることを、特に嬉しく思っております。また、ジャマイカブルーマウンテンコーヒーの日本への初めての直接出荷から70周年をお祝いしました2023年に続いての祝賀となります。

70 years on the Jamaica-Japan coffee partnership has been brewed to perfection. I therefore take the opportunity to recognize the tremendous efforts of our coffee stakeholders who have added all the right ingredients to the mix.

ジャマイカと日本の70年にわたるコーヒーパートナーシップは、完璧までに醸成を遂げました。このミックスに全ての正しい材料を加えて来られたコーヒーステイクホルダーの方々の多大なるご尽力に敬意を表します。

First and foremost, I must recognize the over 5,000 coffee farmers in Jamaica who are our champions of consistent quality. The fruits of their labour sparked Japan's love affair with our coffee many years ago and, today, our countries are working closer than ever thanks to our coffee connection.

何よりもまずはじめに、一貫した品質を保つチャンピオンであるジャマイカ5,000人のコーヒー農家を称賛したいと思います。このコーヒー農家の人々の努力の賜物が、今から何年も前に、日本のジャマイカコーヒーへの愛に火をつけました。このコーヒーによる結びつきのおかげで、両国は一層密接に手を携えています。

Our unique development partnership around coffee is driven in part by the A-J-I-J-C under the solid leadership of Chairman Tatsushi Ueshima. That we have been gathering in this fashion since 2019 is a testament to the Association's deep connection to Jamaica and JBMC. Indeed, the A-J-I-J-C was instrumental in having January 9 designated as Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee Day among Japan's annual commemorations.

両国のコーヒーにまつわる独自の発展パートナーシップは、上島達司会長の確固たるリーダーシップのもと、ジャマイカコーヒー輸入協議会によって推進されています。2019年以来このような形で続いていることは、協議会のジャマイカ及びジャマイカブルーマウンテンコーヒーとの深い結び付きの証です。実際、ジャマイカコーヒー輸入協議会が、1月9日をジャマイカ ブルーマウンテンコーヒーの日として、日本の年間記念日の一つとして登録されたのです。

As the top importer of Jamaican coffee for more than 7 decades, the Association remains a trusted partner in Jamaica's mission to supply Japan and the world with our ethically sourced, and sustainably harvested "winning bean".

70年以上もの間ジャマイカコーヒーの輸入業者としてトップに位置する協議会は、ジャマイカが日本及び世界に向け、倫理的に調達し、持続可能な収穫をする「勝ち豆」を供給するミッションにおいて、引き続き信頼できるパートナーでいらっしゃいます。

I recently received a copy of the AJIJC's 40th Anniversary publication from Chairman Ueshima and was heartened to see the Association's involvement in many of Jamaica's winning moments and those in-between. Mr. Ueshima, I do hope that you and the members of the Association will travel to Jamaica this year and use that opportunity to share this wonderful publication with the Jamaican stakeholders.

先日私は、上島達司会長から協議会の40周年記念誌を拝受し、ジャマイカの多くの勝利の瞬間及びその他の時々における協議会の関わりを拝見し感動致しました。上島会長と協議会会員の皆様におかれましては、是非今年ジャマイカを訪れられ、ジャマイカのステイクホルダーの方々にこの素晴らしい記念誌をシェアなさることを期待致します。

On the Jamaican side, I must commend the Ministry of Agriculture Fisheries and Mining of Jamaica, the Jamaica Agricultural Commodities Regulatory Authority as well as the Jamaica Coffee Exporters Association (J-C-E-A) for their active role in ensuring that JBMC continues to be a product of excellence in the global coffee market.

ジャマイカ側に関しては、ジャマイカブルーマウンテンコーヒーが世界のコーヒーマーケットにおいて、引き続き卓越した商品であるよう、絶えず取り組んでいる、ジャマイカ農業・漁業・鉱業省、ジャマイカ農産物規制公社、ジャマイカコーヒー輸出協会に敬意を表します。

It was an honour for the Embassy to help organize the centenary celebrations of J-C-E-A member—the Mavis Bank Coffee Factory—in Tokyo last year. As you would have seen earlier on the video presentation, Mavis Bank Coffee Factory is a pioneering company in our coffee trade with Japan. And celebrating its magnificent milestone was one of the highlights of the Embassy’'s work in 2023.

ジャマイカコーヒー輸出協会のメンバーである、メイビスバンクコーヒーファクトリー社の100周年記念行事の東京での開催に、昨年大使館がご協力致しましたのは光栄でした。先程ビデオでご覧いただいたと思いますが、メイビスバンクコーヒーファクトリーは、ジャマイカの日本とのコーヒー貿易におけるパイオニアでした。その見事な歴史的節目を記念することは、2023年の大使館の取り組みの中でハイライトの一つでした。

As the first full year with fewer remnants of the COVID-19 pandemic, 2023 provided more opportunities for the Embassy to further promote J-B-M-C in close collaboration with new and existing partners.

コロナ禍の影響が比較的少なかった2023 年、大使館は新規及び既存のパートナーと共に、ジャマイカブルーマウンテンコーヒーを推進する機会をより多く持つことができました。

And I am happy to share with you that an excellent partnership also brewed between Seven-Eleven Japan and UCC Ueshima Coffee Co—leading to the sale of a limited Blue Mountain Blend at Seven Cafés across Japan. Since the launch in November 2023, the response has been nothing short of positive and as of today, there is still a week to go before the sale ends.

そしてセブン-イレブンジャパンとUCC上島珈琲株式会社の素晴らしいパートナーシップが醸成され、日本全国のセブンカフェにて、期間限定のブルーマウンテンブレンドの販売へと繋がりました。2023年11月の販売開始以来好評で、現在も販売中です。

We extend tremendous thanks to 7-Eleven and UCC for partnering with the Embassy on this initiative to promote the Blue Mountain Blend and by extension, Brand Jamaica, in the Japanese market. And, adding to the positive contributions of our Japanese partners over the years, 7-Eleven Japan has donated coffee seedlings to our farmers.

このイニシアチブでは、セブン-イレブンとUCC におかれましては、大使館と共にブルーマウンテンブレンドを、さらにはブランドジャマイカを、日本市場でプロモートしていただきました。そして、これまでの日本のパートナーの方々の前向きなご支援に加え、セブン-イレブンジャパンにおかれましてはジャマイカの農家にコーヒーの苗木を寄贈していただきました。

This invaluable donation will help boost their production they respond to the changing environmental and economic conditions. For Jamaica, these efforts on the part of 7-11represent a precious anniversary gift to strengthen the ties of friendship and cooperation between our two countries.

この貴重な寄贈によって、環境や経済状態の変化に対応し生産量を上げることができます。ジャマイカにとって、セブン-イレブン様のこれらのご尽力は、両国間の友好と協力を強化する大切なアニバーサリーギフトとなりました。

As you know, 2024 is being celebrated as the "Year of the Dragon" and behind this special year is the symbolism of unprecedented opportunities. Coincidentally, 1964 was another Year of the Dragon – the year Jamaica and Japan forged diplomatic ties.

皆様ご存知のように、2024年は辰年です。かつてないチャンスの象徴です。同様に辰年だった1964年は、ジャマイカと日本が外交関係を樹立した年です。

So tonight, as we commemorate a bilateral partnership marked by endless possibilities, we celebrate the pioneering role that coffee has played in our relationship. I am confident that this milestone year will help Jamaica and Japan unlock new and exciting opportunities for our coffee stakeholders in 2024 and beyond.

本日私達が終わりなき可能性を持つ二国間パートナーシップを記念するにあたり、同時に両国関係でコーヒーが果たしたパイオニアとしての役割もお祝いします。この節目の年は、2024年及びそれ以降のコーヒーステイクホルダーにとって、新しくエキサイティングな機会の幕開けへと繋がるでしょう。
