I warmly welcome you all to our special celebration of the 5th anniversary of Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee (JBMC) Day. I am especially delighted that so many of you were able to join us for the entire day of activities.
皆様、第５回ジャマイカ ブルーマウンテンコーヒーの日記念スペシャルイベントにお越しいただき、有難うございます。たくさんの方々に本日一日様々なアクテビティにご参加いただいたことに、特に感謝致します。
Allow me to extend immense gratitude to our partners in this endeavour: the AJIJC and CWW Japan (JTB in Japan). Today’s event is yet another fruitful collaboration of ours not only to celebrate and showcase what makes Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee so unique, but to also promote Jamaica as a gastronomy tourism destination with coffee as our focus.
この催しのパートナー、ジャマイカーヒー輸入協議会様及び、ジャマイカ政府観光局日本代表コネクトワールドワイドジャパン様に、心より感謝申し上げます。本日のイベントは、ジャマイカブルーマウンテンコーヒーの特別な素晴らしさを祝いご紹介するだけではなく、コーヒーに焦点を当てジャマイカを食の観光地としてプロモートする実りあるコラボレーションです。
Ladies and gentlemen,
The Legendary Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee is a coffee of superlatives – known for being one of the richest, smoothest and most balanced coffees in the world.
伝説的に有名なジャマイカのブルーマウンテンコーヒーは、最上級のコーヒーであり、世界で最も芳醇、滑らかでバランスのとれたコーヒーの一つです。
And, for us Jamaica Blue Coffee Day is a celebration of the superlative in the J-J partnership – marking the date of the largest shipment of Jamaica’s winning beans to Japan on 9th January 1967.
そして私達にとって、ジャマイカ ブルーマウンテンコーヒーの日は、J-Jパートナーシップの素晴らしさを記念する日です。1967年１月９日ジャマイカの勝ち豆の最大量が日本向けに出荷された日です。
This evening, I am also proud to share with you that the extraordinary efforts of our Japanese Importers gave birth to the designation of 9th January as JBMC Day in Japan. Chairman Ueshima, allow me therefore to recognize and thank the AJIJC for championing the designation of this special day in 2019, which we now celebrate in Jamaica and around the world.
日本の輸入業者の方々のご尽力により、日本で１月９日をジャマイカ ブルーマウンテンコーヒーの日として登録されたことを誇りに思います。上島会長、ジャマイカコーヒー輸入協議会の2019年のこの特別な日を讃え、今やジャマイカ、そして世界でもお祝いされるこの日について、感謝致します。
We are most grateful to you and the people of Japan for making JBM coffee your #1 choice. Indeed, your enduring love for our coffee has made Japan our #1 market for several decades.
日本の皆様におかれましては、ジャマイカブルーマウンテンコーヒーをナンバーワンのチョイスにしていただいて、心より感謝致します。実際、皆様のジャマイカブルーマウンテンコーヒーに対する尽きることのない愛により、何十年にも亘り、日本はジャマイカのナンバーワンマーケットであり続けています。
I am therefore happy to share that the 2023 JBMC Day represents another milestone in our coffee trade. I speak of the 70th anniversary of the first direct shipment of coffee from Jamaica to Japan in March 1953.
2023年ジャマイカ ブルーマウンテンコーヒーの日が、我々の貿易の新たな節目を象徴することを、喜びを持ってお伝えします。1953年3月ジャマイカから日本へのコーヒーの初めての直接出荷から70周年にあたります。
I take the opportunity to extend heartiest congratulations to our coffee stakeholders on this “platinum” achievement. I have witnessed your active collaboration which has cultivated strong economic ties, built durable partnerships, supported communities, and forged close people-to-people linkages.
この70年の功績に関して、コーヒーのステークホルダーの皆様に心よりお祝いを申し上げます。皆様の活発な協力が強固な経済的結びつきを育み、永続するパートナーシップを築き、コミュニティを支援し、人と人の密接な繋がりを構築してきたことを私は目の当たりにしてきました。
But perhaps the closest linkage we can find is that between our farmers and the precious commodity that they produce. Indeed, our yearly celebrations honour the work of the 5,200 Jamaican farmers at the origin of the ‘champagne of coffee’. We applaud their dedication, consistency and passion – the winning combination that has earned Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee legendary status around the world.
中でもおそらく最も密接な繋がりは、コーヒー生産者とその創り出す貴重な産物です。実際、我々の毎年の祝賀は、5,200のジャマイカの生産農家が、「コーヒーのシャンパン」の源で働くことを讃えるものです。私達はジャマイカブルーマウンテンコーヒーを世界の中で伝説的な地位にした生産者の貢献、一貫性と情熱に拍手を送ります。
Our farmers and the coffee industry also continue to benefit from the stewardship of three (3) key actors: The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries of Jamaica, the Jamaica Agricultural Commodities Regulatory Authority and the Jamaica Coffee Exporters Association.
農家やコーヒー産業もまた、主要な3者による管理の恩恵を受け続けています。それは、ジャマイカ農業・漁業省、ジャマイカ農産品規制当局、そしてジャマイカコーヒー輸出協議会です。
Working alongside our farmers, they have sought to ensure that JBMC’s journey from seed to cup leads to the right destination: a smooth, rich and flavourful brew that is second to none. We commend these efforts and their ongoing work to make our coffee industry sustainable.
これらの組織は、生産農家と共に、ジャマイカブルーマウンテンコーヒーの種からコーヒーカップまでの旅が、正しい目的地に向かうよう探求してきました、つまり、追随を許さず、スムーズで、芳醇なコーヒーが淹れられるようにしてきました。コーヒー産業を持続可能にしているその弛まぬ努力を讃えます。
With recovery and rebound on the agenda, our coffee stakeholders partnered actively in 2022 to promote the JBMC brand. For its part, the Embassy was pleased to contribute to this effort and several of our activities took on new meaning as we celebrated Jamaica’s 60th anniversary of independence.
回復、復興と共に、コーヒーステークホルダーの人々は協力し、2022年ジャマイカブルーマウンテンコーヒーブランドを活発にプロモートしました。この点においてジャマイカ大使館も貢献し、ジャマイカ独立60周年記念と共に、新たな意義を加えアクテビティを開催致しました。
2022 was also a year of reconnection thanks to the opening of Japan’s borders. This allowed representatives from the Jamaican Coffee Exporters Association to attend the SCAJ World Specialty Coffee Conference and Exhibition held in October. And for the first time in 3 years, our stakeholders were able to resume face-to-face engagements.
2022年は、日本の水際対策緩和により、絆を再開する年でもありました。10月ジャマイカコーヒー輸出協議会の代表がスペシャルティコーヒーカンファレンス＆エキシビションに来日しました。そしてステークホルダーの人々は、３年間ぶりに直接対面することができたのです。
Thanks to the Association for the Promotion of International Cooperation’s Invitation Programme, our Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, the Honourable Pearnel Charles Jr., visited Japan and was able to attend the SCAJ Conference as well as engage with the Japanese importers. He used this opportunity to reaffirm the importance of our coffee connection and highlight the Government’s efforts to ensure a sustainable sector.
一般財団法人 国際協力推進協会の招聘プログラムにより、ジャマイカのパーネル・チャールズ・ジュニア農業・漁業大臣が来日、SCAJカンファレンスに参加し、ジャマイカコーヒー輸入協議会のメンバーとも交流されました。大臣は両国のコーヒーによる結びつきの重要性と、持続可能な部門を確実なものとする政府の努力を強調されました。
Last year our Japanese stakeholders also forged new partnerships to promote JBMC. Thanks to UCC, 7-Eleven Japan offered a limited Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee blend at its cafes last year. We welcome this pilot initiative which is set to resume in 2023 – offering a new experience for Japanese lovers of specialty coffee.
昨年は、日本のステークホルダーもジャマイカブルーマウンテンコーヒーをプロモートする新しいパートナーシップを構築されました。UCCさんとの協力により、セブン-イレブン・ジャパンさんはセブンカフェで、限られた量ではありますが、ジャマイカブルーマウンテンコーヒーブレンドを提供されました。私たちはこのイニシアチブを歓迎しますし、2023年に再度行われる予定であり、スペシャルティコーヒーを愛する日本の方々に新たな体験を提供するものです。
As you can see, our coffee partnership is well placed to deliver an even more mutually beneficial trade and development relationship in the months and years to come. And on the horizon in 2024 is the 60th anniversary of Jamaica-Japan diplomatic relations, and the Japan-CARICOM Friendship Year. I am already looking forward to the prospects for increased cooperation, including through these celebratory activities.
我々のコーヒーに関するパートナーシップは、今後一層相互に恩恵をもたらす貿易及び発展のための準備が整っています。2024年は、ジャマイカと日本の外交関係60周年、そして日・カリブ交流年です。私は、これらの祝賀行事を含むなお一層の協力の兆しを今から楽しみにしております。
